Voiceovers by the game’s voice actors have a strong effect on the game play. Hilarious dialogue, intense martial arts action, and many different fighter styles are presented through this game. TV show host Mike Myers voices the protagonist, Bulkhead. This animated character has been voiced by many other characters in past Dragonball episodes. The other voice talents involved are Michelle Obama, David Hasselhoff, and Edith Bergerson.

The game is divided into several episodes, each featuring new characters. New episodes are released frequently, so players will never run out of characters to fight or adventure with. Characters include Dragonball Z’s Goku, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’ Michelangelo, and the movie Shrek. Each hero has his/her own story to tell, so players can jump right into a match when starting up.

The first episode of the game involves Goku. He is found on planet Vegeta where he seeks peace. His race, the Saiyans, has recently been invited to visit Earth to compete in the Martial Arts Tournament. Goku goes there to train and fight with his friends. There are ten stages to complete in the game, requiring players to go through each one using their special techniques.

Dragonball Z was not the only entry into the Dragonball series. Dragonball: Origins featured an alternate version of Dragonball Z. This time, Piccolo joined the fight against Goku. His special move involves throwing a palm-shaped blast that can break bones and is highly powerful. During a boss battle, he uses a similar blast to break a big rock known as Freezer. In the English dub, his name is Broly.
